Gotham Season 5 Episode 11: ‘They Did What?’ Review

[Header Image: David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne | Fox]

While there is one more episode after this one, this really was the finale to the show we’ve been watching these past few years. It closed up everything we’ve been experiencing while episode 12 is more of a flash forward to show us what life is like in Gotham 10 years into the future.

I actually put off watching these final 2 episodes because I couldn’t bring myself around to do it, however, now that I’ve seen them I have to say that episode 11 was a really simple but great way to finish up the story of Gotham. There wasn’t too much going on and the episode didn’t feel like it jumped around as much as they usually do. It meant that none of it felt particularly rushed or overdone.

Gotham Season 5 Episode 10: ‘I Am Bane’ Review

[Header Image: Shane West as Eduardo Dorrance/Bane | Fox]

This episode of Gotham finally introduces us to Bane and gives us Walker’s true motives and real identity. The last we saw of Eduardo, he had been found by Walker and was being treated by Hugo Strange. With his mask on, we got a very small glimpse into Bane but it wasn’t until now that we finally saw him in action.

Things are finally looking up for Gotham which is exactly why it’s no surprise that things went downhill so quickly. The river is now safe and a call is made for the bridges to be rebuilt, allowing for the island to be reunited with the mainland. Not only that, but Jim got some extra good news when he finds out that Barbara has gone into labour but it’s all interrupted when Bane shows up.

Gotham Season 5 Episode 9: ‘The Trial of Jim Gordon’ Review

[Header Image: Ben McKenzie as Jim Gordon | Fox]

This episode of Gotham focuses almost entirely on Jim Gordon. Everything is either directly or indirectly connected to him. We discover that there has been a time jump between this episode and the last. Work has been done to make the rivers clear of toxins and according to Lucius, they’re closer to safety levels than they originally planned. Jim wants to, in the meantime, get a cease-fire with all of the different gangs/territories which doesn’t go well at all.

This new episode of Gotham sees the return of Harvey’s old partner, Dix. When we first see him, he’s no longer in a wheelchair as he shows up to Sirens to talk to two retired cops, Boggs and Lewis, who worked around the same time he did. He asks if they ever think about what they all did to the girl and once Dix leaves the two end up dead on the floor.

Gotham Season 5 Episode 7: ‘Ace Chemicals’ Review

[Header Image: Morena Baccarin as Leslie Thompkins, Cameron Monaghan as Jeremiah Valeska, and Ben McKenzie as Jim Gordon | Fox]

This episode of Gotham was primarily a Jeremiah episode. We finally find out what he’s been up to. It turns out that he turned two people into Martha and Thomas Wayne so he could reenact the night they were killed, only this time he would be the gunman. Jeremiah did this in the hopes of forming a connection between him and Bruce and naturally because this is Gotham things don’t go entirely to plan.

Gotham Season 5 Episode 6: ‘Stitches’ Review

[Header Image: Jaime Murray as Theresa Walker | Fox]

Most of this episode followed the fallout from the reveal that Eduardo and his boss Walker were controlling Ed and were involved in blowing up Haven. We pick up immediately after the previous episode with Jim running away and Ed coming after him. Luckily, after hiding out in an ambulance, Jim uses a defibrillator to shock Ed which fries the chip in his brain. This gives them a chance to meet with Barbara and, later, Bruce, Alfred, and Lucius in order to figure out a plan of what to do next, however, things aren’t so simple.
