Black Adam (2022) | Movie Review [Spoiler Free]

“I’m not peaceful. Nor do I surrender.”

Admittedly, when it came to movies we could possibly see in the DCEU, I have to say Black Adam never so much as entered my mind. While not necessarily the best movie to come out of this franchise, it’s far from the worst.

That being said, Black Adam follows Teth-Adam aka Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson) who is awoken almost 5000 years after he received the powers of the Egyptian gods. There are definitely tie-ins with other DCEU titles but you could get away without having seen any of them in order to watch this one.

Hocus Pocus (2022) | Movie Review [Spoiler Free]

“Thou art lucky to have each other. A witch is nothing without her coven.”

Let’s be honest, there didn’t really need to be a Hocus Pocus 2. The first one felt well-rounded enough and had a satisfying conclusion. However, did that quench my excitement to watch this? Absolutely not.

The sequel picks up nearly 30 years after the original — the same amount of time that’s passed between releases — with the Sanderson sisters returning to Salem once more. The overwhelmingly negative response I’ve seen for this movie has been partially hilarious to witness. Let’s make it simple, is Morbius worth spending money on in order to see it on the big screen? Perhaps not. I saw it at the cinema and I certainly don’t regret it but, unfortunately, there’s nothing particularly special or stand-out-ish about it, so skipping the trip and watching it in the comfort of your home won’t result in any feelings of missing out.

Mary Poppins Returns (2018) | Movie Review [Spoiler Free]

[Header Image: Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures]

The original Mary Poppins is one of my favourite movies of all time and I made sure not to get my hopes up about this sequel especially considering the amount of time that has past since the first movie. That being said, this one isn’t quite as good but it’s still fantastic. Something I particularly liked about it is that you can get away without seeing the first movie. It does help to know Jane and Michael’s history with Mary Poppins and there are appearances or mentions of past characters but Mary Poppins Returns never relies on you having seen the previous movie.
