10 of My Favourite Movies Released in 2022

Now that we’ve entered a new year, I thought I’d go over some of the 2022 movie releases I managed to watch in 2022. While there were definitely some disappointing watches, some titles did manage to stand out and were an absolute joy to watch.

In order to keep this post from getting too long, these are the top 10 but you can find the the full list over on my letterboxd. This list is also in alphabetical order just to keep things simple and fun. All of these picks are based on UK releases and are completely my own opinion.

Studio Ghibli Movies, Ranked: Which is the Best?

This post is spoiler-free.

With Studio Ghibli movies having dropped on Netflix around the world in February, March, and April of 2020, it seems like everyone and their pets are writing lists ranking each title from the worst to the best. Still, with how stylised yet varied the company’s filmography is, I figured I would throw in my two cents and rank them myself.

I would say that objectively speaking, the majority of the movies produced by Studio Ghibli are absolutely worthwhile but hopefully, this list will help you decide which ones to prioritise when choosing what to (re-)watch. That being said, I hope you enjoy and I would love to know what order you would put them or at the very least, what your favourite is!

5 Directorial Debuts That Everyone Should See

A while back I created a list on letterboxd of my favourite directorial debuts. The only requirement I had, is that the movie had to be the director’s first feature-length movie and over time, as I’ve been compiling the list together, I realised how many movies there were that really grasped my attention.

I have chosen five of them to recommend to you, however, there are also three honourary mentions as an added bonus. There will be a little plot description as well as my spoiler-free opinion with each movie. All of these stood out to me in some way, shape, or form so I hope they do for you as well. If you have any favourite (feature-length) directorial debuts then please feel free to send those recommendations my way.

So, without further ado, let’s get onto the list!

10 Movies to Check Out If You Like a Minimalist Cast

There’s just something I really love about watching a movie with a small cast especially when the movie itself is actually really good. So, this post has 10 movies that feature a minimalist cast and all of them are incredibly good in their own right.

With every title, I mention roughly how many cast members there are but often this only takes into account main characters and for some, other characters may show up but for spoiler reasons, I’m avoiding mentioning them.

Note: This list is in no particular order.
