“Once upon a time, there was a girl and the girl had a shadow. The two were connected, tethered together.”
I have been wanting to see this movie ever since the first trailer dropped. After seeing (and loving) Get Out, I was already pretty excited to see what Jordan Peele’s next work would be and Us really did deliver.
For those of who don’t know, Us follows a family who, while on vacation, are terrorised by their doppelgängers.

This movie deserves all the hype it got and then some. Although I knew what this movie was about I was mostly interested in the format. I wanted to see how the editing would be and if it worked for the entire thing. I’ve seen other movies with a similar format but there was something very different about Searching.

The Shallows is a 2016 horror and thriller movie about a surfer called Nancy (Blake Lively) who is stranded 200 yards from shore, and must survive a great white shark attack and get back to safety. It’s directed by Jaume Collect-Serra, produced by Lyn Harris and Matti Leshem, and written by Anthony Jaswinski.
Before we get too into this, I’m going to say this: I enjoyed this movie, but mostly because I could suspend belief long enough to get through it. The movie is only an hour and a half, so it’s not too long to wait, but there’s definitely a lot wrong with it.

The main reason I love these movies is because I love sharks and I know a lot of what we see is going to be ridiculous and exaggerated (unless of course it’s based on true events, although even then…) but this movie takes it to another level.

Nerve is a 2016 thriller, crime, and adventure film based on the 2012 novel of the same name by Jeanne Ryan. It revolves around an online game in which people can sign up to be “players” or “watchers”, the former are given dares to do by the latter and as the movie goes on the dares become more intense.
The movie is directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, produced by Allison Shearmur, and the screenplay is by Jessica Sharzer. It stars Emma Roberts, Dave Franco, Juliette Lewis, and others. More information can be found here.
This movie was a huge surprise! I remember seeing the trailer and being interested and wanting to see it, but I never expected it to be as good as it actually is. I would honestly re-watch it again, and I would definitely say it’s one of my favourite movies of the year, maybe even of all time.
