Will Killjoys ever give me a break? Last week had me crying a ton and this week left us on a fairly big cliffhanger. I don’t want to wait for season 5 and yet, here we are. At least this was a killer finale.
I really liked that we picked up this episode where the last one left off. I appreciated that D’avin and Johnny didn’t believe that it was Aneela at first and then later when it’s confirmed, they don’t trust her entirely. Although she has proven herself I get why so many people don’t trust her and/or want to kill her.
It was really hilarious when Aneela saw Pree for the first time. She looked so amazed and I’m sure if she was given the chance, she would have happily spent more time with him. However, Johnny and D’avin hurry her out of the bar and pretend that she is a very drunk Dutch. As they leave Pree is a little amused by the encounter but his focus is shifted as Gared notes that he has a temperature. Pree does shrug it off but it later becomes a huge part of the episode.

Away from prying eyes D’avin and Johnny want explanations. Aneela convinces them that she and Dutch switched bodies by pointing out that the same thing has happened to D’avin before. Once they believe her, she attempts to explain the green to them and Lucy confirms that she is in fact Aneela.
Her plan is to go into the green with D’avin because he can use his powers to stop the Lady long enough for them all to get out again. They travel to the Armada to access the green pool so they can do just that. Zeph is angry when she sees them but becomes confused when she realises that Dutch is acting differently, and Turin sees through it quite quickly and realises that it’s Aneela. To be honest, I love the Jaqobis brothers but they weren’t very convincing when they tried to pretend that Aneela was Dutch.
The scene that followed was really hilarious. I loved how Aneela and Zeph were talking casually and just getting on with things while all of the men pointed guns on each other. Zeph eventually agrees that Aneela’s plan could work and in order to stop Turin from killing Aneela (because they need her), D’avin gives him the spore to destroy the green if they don’t all get out in time.

Johnny insists he’s going into the green with them and won’t take no for an answer. Right before they go in, Aneela makes them leave their weapons (stating that they’re useless) and she also injects D’avin with a liquid that will allow him to enter the green without rejecting it.
One of my favourite things about their interactions before going into the green was when Aneela found out about Jaq. You could see from the look on her face how much she cares for him already and I really want to see the two of them come together in season 5. It also confirmed how much she cares for him when she refuses to see a picture of him so the Lady can’t use him against her.
Inside the green D’avin and Johnny are taken to their worst moments. The former is taken to the time where he wasn’t himself and attacked Dutch, the latter was taken to when Pawter died. It doesn’t take much for D’avin to break free of the memory but Johnny struggles a little. He figures out pretty quickly that it’s not real but he’s almost convinced by the Lady to stay in an altered version of the memory in which Pawter lives.
Aneela wakes up away from them and is found by Dutch. The former plans to stay behind and hold the Lady off who appears as Delle Seyah Kendry. Dutch heads out to find the boys and finds D’avin wondering through the forest. She convinces him that it’s her with a kiss before they go to find Johnny, realising that he would be in Old Town with Pawter.
They get there before Johnny can agree to stay. With soft voices and gentle actions, they convince him to turn away from Pawter and walk away. It actually broke my heart a little to see Johnny crying a little as Pawter begs him to stay. It was even worse when Johnny, in a quiet voice, asks D’avin to not let him turn around.

Back in old town, Zeph has come to check over Pree only to find that there are several people who are sick. She soon discovers that the kids are making the adults sick and Turin confirms that it’s spreading to other places. At one point Ginny, who was found in the street by Gared with no memory of how she got there, collapses and eventually falls into a coma prompting Turin to put Westerly under quarantine.
Pree is also getting worse but he can still put on a smile and be kind to Gared who clearly just wants to be useful and do something to help. Zeph is trying to find a cure but needs supplies from Qresh, but it turns out the leaders don’t want to help, instead, they want to drop nukes on the area to wipe out the sickness. Turin manages to bargain some time and Zeph does come up with an antidote.
She plans to use it on herself but Pree, after talking to her about what she’s going through, convinces her to use it on him instead because if it goes wrong they need a scientist. The antidote seems to cure the sickness however people seem to be forgetting things. Pree forgets who Gared is, Ginny forgets who her daughter is, and later Zeph begins to forget things as well. The moment Pree asked who Gared was my heart dropped. We’ve had the most adorable scenes between them this season and to have their last interaction of the season be like that was painful.

In the green, the Lady takes Aneela to the fountain where her mother is in the real world. The Lady reveals that she’s the last of her race, she found the green and now she only exists in there as a memory. She says that she wants to make things up to Aneela and says they should work together.
While this is happening Dutch, Johnny, and D’avin are trapped in the forest by people with guns. It was really awesome how they jump to another memory where they’re able to get various weapons and fight their way through the forest. We really got to see more of the green this episode. We’ve spent a lot of time in there throughout different episodes but we’ve never really seen it be used or explored like it was in this episode.
It was really awesome when D’avin steps forward, yells “enough”, and holds his arms out. The Lady actually seems worried by what he did but she still manages to lure him by using Jaq’s voice. When Dutch and Johnny catch up, the Lady is trying to find out where Jaq is. It seems like she has convinced Aneela to join her, if she gets the Lady out of the green, she will get Delle Seyah Kendry and Jaq in return.

I love that Dutch was in disbelief that Aneela would betray them and quickly figures out that she needs to use the cannister. We’ve seen time and time again how their relationship has changed but it was such a big deal that Dutch didn’t instantly believe that Aneela betrayed them. Instead, she kept trying to figure out what it could all mean.
It was really cool to see her go into the memory and retrieve another version of the cannister. While Aneela is outside trying to delay the Lady by pretending she’s going to get them both out of the green, Dutch uses the spore. As the world begins to crumble around them Dutch, Johnny, and D’avin run as fast as they can and find who they believe is Aneela.
They all get out of the green just in time, however, when Dutch leans over to help Aneela out (who is actually the Lady) a hand reaches out and grabs Dutch. Although Aneela was left behind in the green when it was destroyed, it seems very unlikely that she’s died but we’ll have to wait for season 5 to fully confirm that but I doubt that was the last we saw of her.
As soon as Dutch is grabbed, everything changes. We’re taken to Old Town where it’s revealed that Dutch and Johnny are married. Neither of them are killjoys, in fact, Dutch seems to own Pree’s bar. D’avin shows up to Old Town for the first time and is still a killjoy. He seems to share a few looks with Dutch but other than that he doesn’t know her or Johnny. It is revealed that D’avin has a warrant for Jaq. As he walks away we hear the Lady’s final voiceover. Earlier in the episode, we heard her speak as various characters but this time she has a child’s voice and as we hear it, one of the children playing in the street looks directly into the camera.
Things changed when Dutch is grabbed by the Lady so I’m thinking she’s messing with Dutch’s memories (maybe D’avin and Johnny’s too) in order to find Jaq’s location. However, she could have actually altered reality but I think there’s just way too many holes in that theory. Regardless, I know they’ll pull it off in season 5. If they do go with a changed reality then we’ll probably get more of an explanation throughout the final season.
Season 4 has been a lot of fun, Killjoys continues to be one of my favorite shows of all time, and although I’m sad it’s coming to an end, I can’t wait for the final season to see how they wrap it all up.
